just a quickie

i'm back. i had fun. i will miss the team rides.

this is james aka after school special being a jackass and messing with edwin at the end of day 1. this is just a snippet from the weekend:

feeling nostalgic

i was looking thru some pics today. trying to find some for a project i'm helping a friend with.

i've taken A LOT of pictures!

anyhoo, i was looking thru pics of the team and all the rides we've done together and supported together. and then i started thinking... this will be our last ride, together, as a team. our cycling team is disbanding. =(

it's not like i ride anymore or even see everybody all the time, but i do see some of them. and we all keep in contact with our email group. we've been to each others weddings and seen each other thru births. well, i've seen them go thru births. have i talked about this before? cuz i feel like i have. anyway... we're doing our last team ride in may. the ms-150 Frisco to Fort Worth. we had enough money in the account that the CORE (me included) members were invited to join in and the team would put the money up for it. for lodging and the entry fee and the funds needed to raise for the ms society. how cool is that?

i'll be supporting this ride. as i do most rides. this one is new for us. we usually do the Houston to Austin ride. of course, it's gotten way too corporate so we stopped riding that one as a team. when it stopped being fun, we stopped supporting it. crabby directors meant no more midnite kickball and shenanigans. i mean, come on, they left the golf cart JUST SITTING THERE! like we weren't gonna take it? ah, good times.

i can't wait for this ride! The Flaming Goat is coming in from Cambodia for this! he's bringing his wife and his new baby with him, too. too bad Sharky couldn't make it, but she'll be here next year, at this time (well, in May)... Cinco de Sharky! they've brought CORE people out of retirement for this ride and i can't wait to see everyone. it'll be like old times. like our first ms-150 when there were only 13 of us. who would have ever known that by year four, our team would grow to over 300??? everybody wanted to ride with us. we were the fun team. we had tattoos and pacifiers (for virgins) and themes and cool jerseys and team spirit and we actually had fun!

i know i'm still going to see the people i want to see and i know it's not like we're just going to end 10 year old friendships because the team is disbanding. it's just that now... we're actually going to have to make an effort.

please welcome Alexis Makenzie to the world! the latest WUS baby. i can't wait 'til she gets her first bike... YAY!

my super great friends, who left us all for Hotlanta a while back, have procreated!

from what i've been told (a mere 11 days later!), mom and baby are fine. and dad has GINORMOUS hands (check out that last picture).

i wish them well. Alexis joins siblings, Fibi (sp?), Rocky and another one that i can never remember the name of.... these are pups, not kids. i'm sure it would be very different if i couldn't remember their kids' names.

missing friends

so last nite i went to meet the team (my cycling team). we had two birthday celebrations for lil bo pEEp & chris and a farewell to rachael. we're gonna really miss rachael. she was always the one that brought all the cooking stuff out when we went camping!

also, a "safe travels" to sharky. moving from australia to holland. she says she's closer to us now. i was never big on geography so i'll just take her word for it.

oh, and although timothy's in cambodia we called him last nite (10am his time) and wished him a very happy birthday and congrats on his upcoming nuptuals.

these people have been great influences in my life, whether they know it or not. the whole team. we've all been together and growing since 1996. that's a long time! i remember the first time i met jeff (bike shop owner). i was hanging out with an old friend (skankwhore) at the velvet elvis. jeff was all into her. she played him for a little while and then the conversation turned to "what do you do". since i had just bought a bike, i was all over the conversation. jeff said they had a thursday nite ride\pub crawl in houston. being the intermediate rider that i was, i was a bit intimidated when i got to my first ride. all these people were geared up in rider shorts (i still don't wear those) and jerseys and helmets. i think i probably had on denim shorts and a big t-shirt. SO out of my element! everybody was so nice and although i didn't know it at the time, my bike was not the right size for me, therefore harder to keep up (at least that's the excuse i used for being slow). after years of riding, i've never ever been able to keep at the front of the pack. i'm always trailing. but back to the point, these people never left me behind. they were always there when someone fell or had a flat or needed a gel pak. that's what made me fall in love with this group of people. they're an awesome group and i'll never forget any of them!

some have moved on, some still here. some are married now (to other team members) and some just really can't stand other team members. =) but we've all managed to keep in touch for this long time.
