thank god ugly bettty was a re-run

so last nite i went to a jewelry party one of my neighbors was having. i've been in the neighborhood two years now and barely know anyone on the street. i figured this was an opportunity to meet some folks.

so i go over there and there's lots of stuff. some really cool stuff, some really nice stuff, and some really expensive stuff! good god, man! they wanted $80 for a necklace made with the same stuff i have at home. i thumbed through the catalog and noticed that i could actually make half the stuff in there. i just have a really hard time paying that much money for something i know i could do myself. i've got the tools, i've got the knowledge... hell yeah, i can do it!

one lady, that i knew already, picked up a bracelet she wanted but it was a "set". a set of something like eight bracelets that were really all just on a stretch band. who needs eight frikkin bands on their wrist? apparently, not her. she said that was too much and would only wear three at a time, at the most. plus, it was $38 for the "set". i saw her disappointment and told her, "i could totally make that for you". though i don't have the exact same stones, i have some in the same color and silver beads to lace thru, just like it. she'll have her bracelet and everyone will be happier for it. =)

Addie visit

we had a good visit with Addie this weekend. since the weather was pretty nasty, she got the rest she obviously needed... and i got to be just plain lazy. how awesome is that!?!? we really didn't do much of anything. we hung out, got groceries for dinner, watched crap movies, and napped all weekend. perfect weekend for someone whose been traveling a lot, i'd say.

she's coming back in January. we're going to see Jersey Boys, the story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. i'm super excited about that one! S1 and i are taking mom for her birthday. can you imagine all four of us? oldies? i just hope everyone else thinks it's a sing-a-long show. and in Addie's case, i hope they all think it's a sing-a-long show where you make up your own lyrics. =)

don't judge

movies i saw this weekend:

  • Volver - i agree with Addie. Penelope Cruz looks too classy to be playing the part of a run down wife. AND i was a little upset they didn't even use "Volver Volver" in the soundtrack! hence the video below
  • Just My Luck - kill me now
  • Shrek 3 - can't wait to see Shrek-mas tonite! (slitting my wrists as i type)
  • Reign Over Me - too long. stale
  • Mr. Brooks - remind me to slap S1 for recommending this one
  • Hairspray - come on! who didn't love it?

thanksgiving at commerce

last nite, we had our "friends" thanksgiving. SBW made a really awesome turkey! lemon something or other flavored. MAN, it was good! i made garlic mashed potatoes, Meganator and J-Smooth brought the wine and LilBit made the "stove top" dressing. J/K, i don't know if it was stove top, but i think it really was.

it was a good meal with good friends. HM even made it out. i got to see people i haven't seen in a while and chat with others i only see standing behind the bar. it was a good thing, too! through all the chatting, i got a host for my website! at cost! he's even going to design my logo... FOR FREE!! how awesome is that?!?!?

anyways, that's all i got for now. i was just really excited about it.

weekend update/recap

friday - what did i do Friday? what did i do Friday? must have not been all that exciting...

saturday - CRAFT DAY!! Woz came down with her sewing machine and she sewed her butt off. she hemmed our kitchen curtains and made new ties for them, she made me tool pouches, THREE to be exact! she did all kinds of things! sewing is cool! i wanna learn how to sew.

she also brought fabric to make little gift pouches out of. awesome fabric that has been DISCONTINUED! she got the last two yards they had. =( when i learn how to sew, i will make all my own gift pouches. yay!

saturday evening - S1 brought Princess and her friend, Carly, over. they saw that i was about to start making some cuffs so they wanted to make some, too. they wanted cuffs with their pictures on them. done! i made them kind of cartoon-ish looking in photoshop and they came out so good! the girls loved them. they made christmas cuffs, too. "i'm gonna wear this one on christmas eve cuz it's got presents on it and that's when we open presents". "well, i'm gonna wear this one on christmas day cuz that's when santa comes". "but i can wear this one on christmas day, too, cuz i get more presents on that day."

i also taught them how to string their own jewelry and how to finish their bracelets with the crimps and how to use the tools to do it. Princess caught on quick! she needed help, sure, but she picked it up. Carly did really good with the stringing. she made her mom a bracelet for christmas (which she already gave to her). i think they made about seven pieces each. Carly said i was the coolest. way cooler than her aunts! did i get anything done of my own? uh.. no.

we took a break to roast some marshmallows and make smores. during that time, Rosco snapped at Carly. nobody saw what happened, but Carly did have tears so i knew she was scared and something had to have happened. no broken skin. all good. but this is where the story gets good. the next day, i had forgotten to tell her mom about the incident. well, she called to ask me about it and i told her everything i knew. the whole time, Carly's in the background saying, "don't be mad at her. she did everything right". her mom wasn't mad, she just wanted to make sure Rosco had all his shots up to date. he does. she said that Carly was afraid she wouldn't ever be able to come back over. cuz, you know, i'm the coolest!

sunday - i went to "help" little miss baby whiney wuss (S1) chop and prep for turkey day. webster's defines help as: offer aid or assistance; to contribute. NOT DO ALL OF IT! in the time it took me to chop two onions, a green onion bunch, and a celery bunch, she had managed to chop up four stalks of celery. and not even as small as she wanted! you would think she watches enough food network to learn her way around a knife. ummmm, not so much. i felt like a was watching a samurai chef the way she was chopping... and she wanted to make fun of ME??? i'm all about Rachael Ray style chopping! it gets done quick and easy and no tears from onions. no wonder she wanted help. good god, man! at the rate she was chopping, i now know why it takes her so long to prep.

that is all. until next time, i'm sweet t and you're not.

listening to

alexa ray joel. yes, daughter of billy. soulful voice. bluesy-ish music. "for all my days" is my favorite so far. i like the little guitar riff at the beginning. makes me think of my dad for some reason.
plus, how can you go wrong with someone whose musical influences include ella fitzgerald and nina simone?

*spoiler alert*

last nite, we watched i know who killed me. i think a more appropriate title for that movie should have been something like, i'm gonna waste your time by spending the whole movie trying to figure out who killed me and that i have a twin sister.

sweet t aka islebehere aka wonder woman

i'm called by all three. in this day and age of the internet and people putting their whole lives on it for all to see, people are being more free about information they're sharing.

jakob lodwick, founder of vimeo, posted to his tumblr that he would not follow anyone (on tumblr) unless they used their real names. he has a point. why would you follow someone you don't know or have no idea who it is because they use abbreviations or nicknames or an alias?

some of us, though, actually GO by those names and it sounds strange to others to actually hear my real name... and even more so if i respond to it. so you can still call me sweet t or islebehere or wonder woman. i will not reveal my "real" name and therefore, will not have jakob as a follower.

excitement

this weekend, WOZ is coming over for CRAFT DAY! can you hear the crowds roar? anyway, she'll be bringing her sewing machine with her so we can work on "packaging" for the jewelry i make. i already have someone working on a logo.

i really need to start taking pictures of the stuff i do, too. i made Mamalane a tiger eye necklace (that she LOVES!) and i made a necklace and earring set for a co-worker that she really liked. she didn't even pause. she just asked, "how much do i owe you?". those are the customers i really like!

so this weekend i also need to pick up Booger on Saturday and have him come rake the yard. 25 bucks to rake front and back, bag it, and put it on the curb. easy money. i think i might bring Princess back with me to do some crafting, too. i just photoshopped some pics that she might want to put on bracelets for her friends' christmas gifts. we'll see.

sunday, i have to go help S1 cut up stuff and prep for Thanksgiving day. she's being all whiney about her neck and her back ...wah. j/k! she does have the majority of stuff to do. i mean, with a 23 lb turkey... who the hell is she feeding? Jabba the Hut??? my back would hurt, too, from lifting that!

we're also having Thanksgiving at Commerce on Monday. my old apartment building. i've been asked to make my garlic mashed potatoes again. hey S1... some people LIKE the way i cook!! =p

that's all that's going on for now. oh, and Booger better earn that $25.

thots

wouldn’t it be nice if, for every yellow light you stopped at, the DMV sent you the picture of you being a good citizen… and a coupon for $20 off your next ticket?

it's been crazy busy up in here

so, i know i haven't updated in a while and it's only because i've been kinda busy, uh, having a life... i promise to get better at it with more regular posts.

where we left off: just kidding, i don't know where we left off. but i do know in the last couple of weeks, i've made three necklaces, been drunk twice, passed out at a friends once, and had two visits from Austin. one from Addie. one from Seth.

i also made it down to the Lone Star Rally. i went down there after work, because i was supposed to meet Lil Bit (who almost killed my dog! another story for another time) and her guy. of course, she wasn't there at designated time so i ended up hanging out with Durty. Durty is SBW's new boyfriend. he was a good stand-in, tho. we hung out, walked around, had a few beers. i have a few pictures and a lot of video from that nite. none that i've downloaded to Lappy yet because i've just recently (last nite) moved stuff over to my external to make room for it. i'll try to get that done this week. get pictures and video up, that is. of the rally. we saw a guy riding his motorcycle inside the "wall of death". that was pretty cool!

in the time i hung out with Durty, i got to know him a little better. i think he's a pretty genuine guy. young and in love. it's so sweet to see his eyes light up when he talks about her. she finally got a guy that appreciates her for who she is. i wonder... do HM's eyes light up when he talks about me??? duh! of course they do! j/k! no really, do they?

the day after that, Addie came down with her friends David and Javier. they did the museum thing while i slept off a light hangover. when they got to the house, i was already all better. =)

i gave HM the nite off to go play with his BFF down at the rally and the rest of us went to Claudio's for dinner. yum! i was Addie's date. she wouldn't even hold my hand, tho. =( After dinner, we went down to the boardwalk to ride The Bullet! good god, man, it was fast!! super fast! like, almost peed my pants fast! but really, i think i had more fun jacking with the kids in line. kids are so easy. i think we embarrassed most of them, which is nice. cuz that's really all that matters. i had some kid "dare" me to spit on the people below us. i acted like a was hawking up a lugi and he freaked... boy: i was just kidding! of course, then, he had to tell all his buddies what i was about to do and immediately, i was solid with them. i was, like, the coolest person in line! of course, pack of raccoon-eye girls behind us, were not so thrilled. who is teaching these girls the basics of eye make-up is what i wanna know??

it was a super fun nite! we laughed all nite! and my honey even came home early. =) we won't go into why (cough*B.A. blew chunks*cough).

sunday we started off towards the island at 8AM. yes, 8AM! because, guess who wanted a Nopalito breakfast...??? uh, it wasn't me. but she was my guest and had been deprived for so long and had got my dinner the nite before and... okay, this page just isn't long enough. it was like the girl was in heaven at the first bite. sweet momma maker of burritos, Addie was in heaven!

sunday afternoon, was the best. we went to see Avenue Q! it was so much fun!! it was such a cool show!! lemme tell ya, tho... one is never really quite ready for muppet sex. that's all i'm sayin'. if you ever have the chance, i highly recommend it. the show. not the muppet sex. well, unless you're in to that sort of thing...

after i said good-bye to Addie and my two new friends (who are allowed to visit even without Addie) i made my way over to El Patio to meet up with some friends who came in from Georgia. i got see baby Alexis in person! she is the cutest thing! we had some dinner and caught up on everything; life, love, and the pursuit of happiness. i think we're blessed in all areas. =)

that's enough for one post. i'm gonna have to do this past weekend's update later this week. i gotta get back to work. until next time, i'm sweet t and you're not.

p.s. to Addie: tell David i'm still waiting on my SHREK!
